I a thread before elsewhere and it made me wonder, what do you classify as the perfect layout for you? I know for me, the reason i reset IS because of the layout. I get bored of it and restart. General layout for me is important, I like interesting layouts which are quite different from most. A good spot for my house and the starting villagers make a difference. You can vote to up to 3 categories in the poll, here's some descriptions of each one:
Town Fruit - Does your town fruit make a difference to you?
Layout - The general layout of the entire town.
River - Does the way the river goes bother you?
Beach - If the beach if a full connecting beach or the direction of it matters.
Villagers - The type of villagers you get at the start.
Feature Spots - Does the placement of the town plaza, town hall and retail matter to you.
Ponds - How many ponds you have and their placement.
House Location - If there are any good spots for your own house!

Town Fruit - Can ONLY be Peaches or apples
Layout - I don't mind, but the plaza can't be in certain places
River - Just as long as there are no places I'll forget villagers, I'm good
Beach - I prefer a private beach, but am not all that picky.
Villagers - No Vladimir. He's been a starter way too much. They also can't be ugly, or tier 1
Feature Spots - These don't matter
Ponds - I like a lot of ponds, but I don't care
House Location - I plan while I choose my placement

This is hard. Won't vote because I want to vote nearly all of them lol. Town Fruit - Don't mind XD Layout - Plaza in a good spot please XD River -South facing waterfall. Looks really pretty Beach -Split beach, on the left so museum is on the right Villagers - Don't really care XD Feature Spots - Yes. No awkward spots XD Ponds - As least as possible (Whoops grammar) And none in front of retail, that;s the worst. House Location - I choose XD. I was very picky, when I reset my town recently, I took over 8 hours for a good map. Whoops XD

Layout is definitely a must for me, I mostly play ACNL to make the prettiest town I can and if my river and plaza aren't in a good spot I'll have to reset

Town Fruit - Does your town fruit make a difference to you? No, not at all! I don't care much about fruits, since I can get the missing ones from friends. I was just lucky getting apples in New Leaf.
Layout - The general layout of the entire town. Yup! However I count the river, beach and feature spots as a part of this.
River - Does the way the river goes bother you? Yes. I like the river crossing my town. I've seen towns with the river being mostly on one side of the map, and somehow it feels like it's missing. I loved the river in my City Folk town. I split in two at the lower part of the map, creating an "island", where my house was on.
Beach - If the beach if a full connecting beach or the direction of it matters. I don't really care about the beach, as I don't spent much time there. c:'
Villagers - The type of villagers you get at the start. Well, there a few villagers I wouldn't want from the beginning, but I don't really care if everything else fits!
Feature Spots - Does the placement of the town plaza, town hall and retail matter to you. Yes!! I find it very important that the feature spots are scattered over town. To my mind, it's more fun to walk through town and pass these spots.
Ponds - How many ponds you have and their placement. I don't really care as long as they aren't in the way.
House Location - If there are any good spots for your own house! Yes! I somehow like putting my house close to the beach or the river, so I always look for a nice spot there.
All in all, I don't think there is something as the perfect map layout. It's what you make out of that layout. c:

The perfect map...
I think it is a combination of things. I re-set my town a lot before I finally decided that Knitting is the town I am keeping. Period. Until the next game comes out.
Why this one? I really love the shape of my town. How the river runs through it and how the landmasses look. The town fruit isn't so important to me, but I was disappointed that it was pears. I plan on replacing all of my pear trees with persimmons...
When I found this map, I really liked how the town square was on the other island. It made me think that I could connect everything and make it kind of like a cute little town square...literally. And I am almost done. I just need Klaus to move out.
Over all, I like my town. There are too many perma-rocks, and I am sad that the grass is square, but I love the shape and layout far too much to delete again.
