Where will the handheld games industry go from here?

With all the 4k consoles coming out, i'm wondering where we'll go from here handheld wise. Home consoles seem to have found it's home with the switch being a hybrid and the rest being super powerful 4k cosoles but I can't see what will happen with nintendo. I think the 3DS line is coming to an end. I don't know if they'll drop handhelds altogether after the 3ds because the switch is handheld or something new entirely.

I'm also wondering what sony will do cos the ps vita is pretty much dead and they have stayed in the handheld market for quite a while, will they drop out or make something new?

I just can't imagine them shutting down the 3DS WiFi servers like they did with the Wii

Maybe they'll try and capitalise on the 3ds for as long as possible. I think they've learnt their lesson not to use silly names. Consoles which try and use the same name to capitalise on the success like the 'wii' u and the 'new' 3ds and xbox one x just flop because people don't know what they are lol The marketing is off. I'm so glad they made a new name for the switch. I think if they did a more powerful 3ds they should dump the name and move onto something new. It would be like a phone but maybe they could make a finger touch screen handheld instead.

Good observation and so true!! The names they put made no sense. And there was a pattern because they both flopped (I don't think the New 3DS is that much of a flop though). I guess they were just trying to ride off the fame of the Wii and 3DS. Yeah, their next handheld should be completely unrelated to the 3DS like the Nintendo Switch (which was such a success!) I'm glad the switch didn't flop though, I was hoping it wouldn't.

Yea the nintendo switch is great. I still remember when i watched the first announcement trailer and I was like...ohhhh I get it..that's pretty cool. I got the same old feeling I get when nintendo are on the right track lol Now....................if only they put gamecube games on it then I could die happy.
