Nintendo's earnings report in 2017 actually gives us alot of information into what the game is and why it's going mobile: The game will be a " pure game application" that will have " more prominent game elements" than Miitomo and probably be similar to fire emblem but more condensed to only show the most familiar features like building a house, looking after villagers, buying items etc. The report also mentions that the game will be designed to be " connected with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated gaming systems". It's possible nintendo have delayed the mobile game so it can cross-connect to a new animal crossing game instead of new leaf which the fanbase have started losing interest in. In a previous interview, Tatsumi Kimishima (nintendo's president) was asked why animal crossing was chosen as one of the first two nintendo properties to be released on mobile, in which he responded: "Each property targets a distinct segment of Nintendo's audience" also mentioning that "animal crossing has been played by a wide range of consumers including children and women." See source. So far this is everything we know about the ac mobile:- Have cross-connectivity features with previous or new animal crossing titles. - More prominent game elements. - Will be released in 2017 as stated by reggie in an interview. - Chosen for mobile because it has a broad fanbase and is well known. Whilst this doesn't seem like much, it's comforting to know that ac mobile will not the end all of the animal crossing series or even the next full title. It will connect with the current series and this gives hope for new console based ac games in the future.
